Low-Residency Model
Lesley University's Low-Residency Doctoral Program in Expressive Therapies supports the continual development of arts therapies, providing education for expressive therapists, making them leaders in the field. The low residency model provides a convenient forum that allows professionals to develop scholarship that expands the knowledge base in expressive therapies, while accommodating their busy professional schedules and family lives.
Pioneering Program and Experts
Established in 1975, Lesley's Expressive Therapies Program was one of the first to train professionals in this creative and vital field. Today, the Ph.D. Program is led by internationally renowned experts.
Individual Advisors
Students choose an advisor in the first year of the program and work closely with the advisor throughout their studies. Students’ professional interests inform the research focus.
Balance Academics, Career, and Family
Lesley’s low-residency model will allow you to complete your 45 credit doctoral degree while balancing family life, and professional responsibilities. You will attend three residency sessions, each three weeks long, held in Cambridge, Massachusetts. There you’ll meet with your faculty advisor, attend seminars and classes, and design research projects. In between residencies, you’ll continue your work from home and stay connected with your faculty advisor and peers via online classes, email, phone, and videoconferencing communications.
Lifelong Collaborative Network
Through the low-residency program you will build a life-long collaborative network. Residencies provide a great opportunity to meet peers and colleagues with complementary interests and knowledge, and many students look to their peers during the distance semesters for motivation, inspiration, and resources.
