The Doctoral Program in Expressive Therapies supports innovative research and scholarship that improves and expands practice in every sector of the global arts therapy field.
This PhD Program:
You'll come to campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts for a residency each July of the three-year program, for about three weeks each time. During these residencies, you'll:
Between residencies, you'll continue your work from home and stay connected with your faculty advisor and peers via online class sessions, email, phone, and videoconferencing communications.
This is a 45-credit program. Artistic expression and inquiry, paired with a research focus, are interwoven throughout the doctoral program. Students generally take one to two years after the three years of residency to finish their dissertations.
You'll select a doctoral advisor from our faculty during the first year of the program and continue to work closely with your advisor throughout the program. You'll also select and recommend internal and external doctoral committee members. Meet our PhD faculty members.
