November 5 Author Series featuring Velma Maia Thomas, who will discuss her book about slavery entitled, Lest We Forget, at noon and 4:00 pm at University Hall Amphitheater. This event is co-sponsored with the Office of the President and the Diversity Council.
November 6-8 Conference: "Greening the City: Fostering Inspired and Innovative Leadership for Just and Sustainable Urban Communities", sponsored by Lesley University and MA Audubon Society. Featured speaker: Frances Moore Lappe. Learn more about the conference.
November 10 Author Series featuring Dr. Derek Bok, who will discuss his book entitled, Our Underachieving Colleges, at 4:00 pm in Marran Theater at Lesley University. Reception to follow.
November 12 Career Panel for Educators: The Hiring Process in Public, Charter, Independent and International Schools, sponsored by the Career Resource Center, 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm, University Hall Room 2-150. For more information, contact 617.349.8550.
November 12 Art Institute of Boston Exhibition Opening Reception featuring Siebren Versteeg, a New York-based artist and designer, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the AIB Main Gallery, 700 Beacon Street, Boston. Exhibit will run from November 12th through December 13th.
November 14 Community Service Project: Family Literacy Day at Cambridge City Hall, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm (sign up for a shift - either 9:00 am - 12:30 pm or 12 noon - 3:30 pm). Join Lesley students, staff and alumni to participate in this literacy day for the Cambridge community. Volunteers are needed to assist with setting up the event, registering participants, greeting guests, running various activity booths, serving lunch and breaking down the event. SOLD OUT!!! November 15 Lesley Day at The Children's Museum, 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Join Lesley alumni and their families for an afternoon at the museum, including free time to explore the exhibits, followed by a children's book reading and birthday cake. November 20-January 4 Second Archival Exhibit: The Lesley Campus, showcasing the development of the campus over the past 100 years, and plans for new AIB building and Brattle Campus.
December 2 Second Archival Exhibit: The Lesley Campus Opening Reception from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm in the Marran Gallery.
December 5 Community Service Project: On the Rise, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. On the Rise is a drop-in day center for women living in crisis or homelessness. Their mission is to support the initiative and strength of women by providing unique and effective services. Come and volunteer for this amazing organization! Organize donations, clean up the grounds, decorate the facility for the holiday season and learn more about how On the Rise contributes to the Cambridge community. - A Lesley Course will be offered in the Spring 2010 semester – Special Topics in U.S. History: Edith Lesley (1872-1953), An American Life. The course examines selected social, political, economic and cultural developments in the U.S. from the Gilded Age to World War II. Topics will include the growth of social and economic opportunities for women; the history and importance of kindergarten education; the impact of industrialization on New England; and the growth of the museum and historical preservation movements.
