Faculty & Staff Profiles
Dr. Anne M. Collins, Director
Anne Collins is the Director of Mathematics Programs at Lesley University. She is the former director of Partnerships Promoting Student Achievement in Mathematics at the Boston College Mathematics Institute. She served as an adjunct professor at Boston College Lynch School of Education. She is the series editor for NCTM's Assessment Sampler Series, a set of books for teachers in grades PreK-2, grades 3 – 5, grades 6 – 8, and grades 9 – 12. Recently, she authored Using Classroom Assessment to Improve Student Learning published by NCTM, and co-authored Zeroing in on Number and Operation, Grades Pk-K, published by Stenhouse Publishers.
A long-time mathematics teacher in Weymouth, she is the former Massachusetts Statewide Mathematics Coordinator (1997-1999). Anne is a board member of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in New England. She is also the past president of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Massachusetts. She is an active member of the Association of State Supervisors in Mathematics, having served on the professional development committee. A long time member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the National Association of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) she is a regular presenter at both annual and regional NCTM conferences, and the annual NCSM, ATMIM, and ATMNE conferences.
She also served as a co-principal investigator for a five-year NSF grant, CriticalMass with the Hudson and Fitchburg school districts. Recently, Dr. Collins delivered the annual Dr. Richard H. Balomenos Lecture at the 2009 NCTM regional conference held in Boston, Ma. She is currently serving a three-year term on the NCTM Board of Directors that began in 2010. In 2011, Dr. Collins was awarded the ETACuisenaire Distinguished Service Award "in recognition of outstanding dedication, leadership, and vision in the pursuit of excellence in mathematics education" and delivered the Arthur F. Smith lecture at Rhode Island College.

Steve Yurek, Associate Director
Steve Yurek joined Lesley University in 2007 as an Associate Director for the Center for Mathematics Achievement, and as a faculty member in the Master in Mathematics Education program. Steve and Lesley adjunct Jayne Bamford-Lynch have developed a diagnostic test and a series of workshops aimed to help teachers prepare for the MTEL General Curriculum Math Subtest.
Steve has spoken at various conferences throughout New England and served as Local Arrangements Coordinator for NCTM Northeast Regional Conference in Boston in October 2009. Currently he is the conference co-chair for the ATMNE Fall Conference to be held in Warwick, RI in November 2011. For the past three years, Steve has served as a member of the Massachusetts Advisory Panel for Mathematics and Science. Currently he is the ATMIM President-elect.
Steve arrived at Lesley after spending 38 years as a secondary math teacher, 32 of which were spent at Assabet Valley Regional High School. In 2008, Steve was inducted into the Massachusetts Educators Hall of Fame.
