College Courses for High School Students

Courses and Workshops

Fall Session:
October 22, 2011 - December 10, 2011

We offer college courses for high school students in the areas of artistry, technology, and professions in the visual arts. Students can earn one college credit after successfully completing most courses. Some courses are offered for non-credit.

  • October 22: seven-week credit classes begin
  • November 12: four-week workshops begin
  • November 26: no class, holiday
  • December 10: classes and workshops end
  • December 17: make up class

Winter Session:
February 18, 2012 - April 7, 2012

  • February 18: seven-week credit classes begin
  • March 10: four-week workshops begin
  • March 17: no class, spring break
  • April 7: classes and workshops end
  • April 14: make up class

Summer Session:
July 2, 2012 - July 27, 2012

All students are invited to participate in an exhibition showing their work at the close of the program. An opening is planned for July 27, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at 700 Beacon Street. (Directions to campus.)
 

Scholarships Available

Tuition-only Scholarships for Credit Courses
Winter application deadline: February 3, 2012

A limited number of tuition-only scholarships are available on a financial need basis. These scholarships do not cover material or registration fees ($75). To apply, send in a completed registration form, a check or money order for $75, along with a copy of all parental 1040 income tax returns for 2010 or 2011 (if available).

Young Artist Scholarship Program (YAP)
Winter application deadline: February 3, 2012

The Art Institute of Boston has established the YAP program to provide access to AIB's extensive Pre-college courses for talented, urban high school students with significant financial need. The program provides full tuition and fees, along with an hourly stipend. Interested students should contact the Director of Programs, at 617.585.6724. Students must submit artwork, art teacher recommendation, and parental income tax returns. Scholarships are funded by: The Ralph Bradley Prize Trust, The Associated Grant Makers Fund, The Hawkridge Foundation, and individual benefactors.

A day of hands-on, career-oriented visual arts workshops for high school juniors in May—free. Learn more about this program.

Summer Young Artist Residency Program (YAR)

Summer Session: July 2, 2012 (Move in date: July 1, 2012; Move out date: July 28, 2012)
Application deadline: May 18, 2012

The Summer Young Artist Residency Program is available for a limited number of students who will be entering their junior or senior year of high school Fall 2012. Accepted students choose a full schedule of courses from the Summer Pre-college Session and live in the Lesley University residencies. Evening and weekend events, local transportation, and meals are provided at no additional cost. The residency program, complete with successful coursework and activities, carries six college credits.

Pre-college students benefit when applying to AIB's BFA programs

Students who have successfully completed a pre-college course at AIB and choose to apply to AIB for the undergraduate BFA program may waive the application fee, and students who have previously attended three or more pre-college classes will be offered a $1,000 one-time scholarship. Residency students who have successfully completed the Young Artist Residency program at AIB may waive the application fee as well as the interview and letters of recommendation. In addition, residency students who enroll in the BFA program receive a $1,000 first year scholarship in addition to any other merit-based scholarships offered. Art Educators

AIB is a certified provider of Professional Development Programs for Massachusetts's teacher re-certification. Earn Professional Development Points (PDPs) by enrolling in any of our college level courses or professional development seminars (PDP code 4-9001-999).
