Nesting

Just as a bird's nest keeps eggs close together, nesting in a keyword search uses parentheses to keep similar concepts close together.

The parentheses tell a search engine to search the terms within it first. Use nesting to group concepts when using two or more connectors.

alcohol AND (adolescents OR teenagers)

This search will retrieve records on alcohol and adolescents, as well as items on alcohol and teenagers.
