Technology in the Residence Halls
The residence halls at Lesley University offer students the opportunity to connect to the school's high speed network from the convenience of their room. We also offer free anti-virus software and information about how to set up your phone with Verizon.
Residence Hall Internet Access
Every student living on campus is provided with one high speed network port in their room, and may register one computer on the Lesley network for no additional fee. Please visit our Residence Hall Internet Access page for further information on connecting to the network.
Residential Phone Service
Getting Started
Every bedroom on campus is equipped so that at least one phone can be installed. When setting up your phone, look for a jack displaying either a green sticker that says "Phone" or a green icon of a phone (this will not always be near the network port in your room.) Phone service is provided by Verizon, and students should contact them directly when setting up service.
Maintenance Contracts
Often when setting up phone service, Verizon will offer students a maintenence contract for a certain ammount extra per month. In a true residential environment, this would be necessary if anything went wrong with the wiring in your house that Verizon did not own. Here on campus, University Technology is solely responsible for maintaining the wiring in your building, up to and including the phone jack in your room. Since Verizon cannot perform the maintenance they are selling you, such a contract is unnecessary.
Getting Help
In a case where Verizon says your phone is connected but there is no dial tone, please contact University Technology at 617.349.8770. We will work with you to determine if the problem is related to Verizon, the University, or your telephone equipment.
Virus Protection
Lesley provides students with information and tools to help protect themselves from malicious viruses and spyware. Please review our Guide to Safe Computing [pdf] which includes information on how to download and install free spyware protection. Residential students can also download a copy of Symantec Anti-Virus from their room on campus, free of charge.
