Outgoing CallsOur phone system requires some specific actions, for example, to dial off-campus or to activate touch-tone dialing to interact with outside menu systems.

Barred or Blocked NumbersYou may occasionally dial an external number and find that you are unable to get through because the number is barred or blocked. Users with display screens on their phones will see the message "Barred Number" and all users will hear an obnoxious, repeating alert noise. Often a number is barred because the area code is new and has not yet been programmed into the system. When this happens, please email us at phones@lesley.edu. Include in the message the 10-digit number and the name, city, and state of the person you are trying to call. We will respond to your message, and reprogram the system if necessary, within 24 hours. Personal calling card assistance: If you find an 800 assistance number on the back of your calling card, dial it using the instructions above. If there is no 800 assistance number, call the Verizon operator and ask to be connected to the operator of your own calling card company. This will ensure that your call will be billed at the rates of your own company.[ back to top ]
Touch ToneNormally, your phone is not in the touch-tone mode, and therefore cannot interact with an outside company's voicemail system. To activate touch-tone, first place your call. Once you are connected: Beige-colored Ericsson phones, all models: Press the touch-tone button. This is always the upper right hand corner button.Alternately, press 9. To Program a Frequently Called NumberIf your phone does not have two rows of buttons to the right of the number buttons:

To use this feature, press the line button you programmed. To erase an old number, reprogram anything over the old number, e.g., two stars, or a new number. PLEASE NOTE: We recommend that you do not program your long distance calling code by itself. Lesley policy requires that you do not share your long distance calling code with others to protect against unauthorized use. [ back to top ]
Automatic Call Back (Internal Calls Only)If an extension you're dialing is busy:
PLEASE NOTE: You'll know this feature has successfully engaged when you hear a double tone just after you dial 6. This feature won't work if the extension you're calling has been programmed to divert to voicemail when busy and you won't hear the double tone. When the extension becomes free, your phone will ring (short, quick rings for 8 seconds). Pick up the receiver while it's still ringing. You'll hear the phone system ringing the extension for you. You can have several "call backs" activated at once. To cancel a single call back:
