Web publishing for faculty

Lesley University offers faculty the ability to create a faculty web page to post on the University website; utilize student subdirectory accounts for course activities; and password protect this content.

Faculty Web Accounts

Faculty web accounts are available to all faculty who have a current teaching contract, including adjunct faculty and faculty who teach off-campus. Faculty web accounts are used by faculty who wish to create personal web pages. For classroom activities that require student web publishing, faculty can request student subdirectories for use in a specific course.

Account Policies

Faculty members are responsible for the content they publish on the web server, including any content submitted by their students. Please refer to the Lesley University Electronic Environment Policy for full details. The following information should not be stored in a faculty web account: executable (.exe) files; copyright protected materials and information; back-up data; course related information and materials that could be delivered through myLesley.

Account Requests

To request an account, please complete the online faculty web account request form. Normal turn-around time for account creation is five business days. Account information will be sent via email.

Software

Free FTP and HTML editor software is available online for download and installation.  The ELIS Digital Resources Collection may have information on these resources. These applications are unsupported by UT, but you may contact University Technology by email at ut@lesley.edu or by phone at 617.349.8770 if you require installation assistance..

Training

Atomic Learning provides multiple tutorials on several web authoring software applications such as Dreamweaver and iWeb. Information on how to access the Atomic Learning suite can be found at http://www.lesley.edu/elis/atomiclearning.html.

Linking Personal Pages to the University Web Site

If you would like to link your personal web page to the University web site, please email the Office of Web Services at web@lesley.edu.

Student Subdirectories

Faculty may request individual web accounts for each of the students in a particular course. Individual web accounts will be created as subdirectories of an existing faculty account. Each student account allows access to one particular student subdirectory. Students are not able to access other student accounts nor are they able to access other levels of the faculty directory.

Faculty members are responsible for the content they publish on the web server, including content submitted by their students. Subdirectory account information is sent to faculty via email. Account creation is based on the "create account by date." Faculty are responsible for sharing account name, password, and expiration date details with their students. To request student subdirectories please use the online student subdirectory request form.

Student Subdirectory expiration dates are set by the faculty member in the account request form. Faculty will be notified of pending deletions approximately 1 week prior. Notification occurs monthly.

Password-Protected Directories & Files

Faculty may request that a directory, subdirectory or file within their faculty directory be password-protected in order to restrict access. Password protection is effected for specific directories and files.

If you move or rename a directory or file after password protection is in place, the protection will not apply to the new names and locations. Password protection can be requested by using the online password protection request form. Normal turn-around time is five business days.  Confirmation will be sent via email.
