The first of two phases of renovations to existing Threshold buildings is set to begin May 6 with construction at 78-80 and 82R Oxford Street. Deferred maintenance will be addressed and needed upgrades will serve the community through improved accessibility, appropriate room sizes, and energy efficiency.
The proposed design will improve the sense of community within the Threshold program by increasing meeting space for residents with an improved common room and kitchen. It will encourage independent living by increasing bedroom sizes and providing a higher ratio of singles to doubles. Lastly, it will encourage a strong, supportive community by providing a more appropriately sized Resident Director apartment.
Threshold buildings should be open and welcoming to people of all disabilities and levels of mobility. The design proposal simplifies circulation and level transitions.
Threshold buildings should reduce demand for fossil fuel consumption through increased energy efficiency. Renovations will enact energy savings measures such as efficient lighting and automated controls.
