student leadership opportunities

Threshold Student Government

The Threshold Student Government is an opportunity for students to have a voice within the community and have the opportunity and experience to plan activities for their peers. The Student Government members meet regularly with the Student Government Advisor. There are 3 main goals:

  1. To plan a big social event each semester
  2. To plan a big community service event each semester
  3. To discuss major issues in regards to the living circumstances and create a plan for change

Planning and implementing a social event gives students the opportunity to develop skills in thinking ahead, budgeting, event promotion, and working though complications that arise. Planning the community service event provides students the opportunity to think outside the circle of Threshold and Lesley and come up with ways to help out those less fortunate than themselves. The opportunity to discuss issues gives students a voice and to feel as though they have the power to change certain circumstances.

Other Leadership Opportunities

Program/Activity Leaders

We will be looking for students to volunteer to work with the Residence Life staff to plan programs and to lead them. This could be on-campus activities but particularly off-campus activities. Leaders would work closely with the staff to create the event, budget, spread the word, and then ultimately take all the students to the location.

Hall Leaders

We will be looking for students who might want to oversee certain issues in the hall – these issues might be recycling, cleanliness, noise, travel advisor, information spreading, etc. The nature of the issues will depend on the dynamics of each hall.

In the coming months, as we try out more of these roles and gauge the dynamics of the halls, we are looking to offer more opportunities including – orientation buddies, peer mentors, and others.
