Advanced Certificates and Areas of Specialized Study

Summer Session 2009

Advanced Studies Certificate in Creativity, Imagination and Leadership (15 credits)

The 15-credit Creativity, Imagination and Leadership program is designed to address the creative renewal and fulfillment of professionals in every field and sector of organizational life. It is ideal for professionals who want to more fully realize their personal creative potential and learn how to lead others in more imaginative ways. Two required courses examine the theory and practice of creative imagination and its integration with personal experience and leadership. Program participants will be free to select courses from throughout the University, design an individualized program of study, establish relationships with Lesley’s diverse faculty, and gain a deeper understanding of creative transformation. The program is based upon the belief that direct personal experience with the creative process enables leaders to more effectively foster the creative expression of individuals and communities.

Advanced Professional Certificate in Expressive Therapies Studies (12 credits)

The 12-credit Advanced Professional Certificate in Expressive Therapies Studies is designed for mental health and health care professionals, human service professionals, social workers, school psychologists, guidance and adjustment counselors and others who are looking for innovative approaches to enhance their professional lives. The program offers specific training in the uses of different expressive therapy modalities. Participants study the principles and practices of the various modalities of art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, and psychodrama. Coursework will demonstrate how expressive therapy skills can be integrated into clinical work with a variety of populations. The courses are designed to build on each participant’s professional practice and offer skills in combining innovative techniques and strategies for effecting positive change.

This certificate is not intended for those who require full professional training for licensure or accreditation in the Expressive Arts Therapies specialization.

Advanced Studies Series in Educational Arts (15 credits)

The 15-credit Advanced Studies Series in Educational Arts is a series of classes designed to help educators and other professionals seeking to integrate the arts into different areas of learning—from classrooms to museums to community settings. Through stimulating courses and numerous 
hands-on experiences, students discover the power and potential of the arts to reach children and adults in new and effective ways. Students also engage in exciting personal explorations of their own creativity, uncovering in the process their innate talents and strengths. These courses are based in the Creative Arts in Learning division, which has the underlying philosophy that the arts are central to human learning, and can serve as a foundation for education in many different settings.

Advanced Studies Series in Holistic Body-mind Integration (15 credits)

The 15-credit Advanced Studies Series in Holistic Body-Mind Integration is a series of classes designed for any person who wishes to study holistic health across disciplines. Health is broadly defined as a dynamic process of well being, which integrates mental, physical, social/relational, aesthetic and spiritual elements. The fostering of this process relies upon primary prevention efforts, in addition to the treatment of disease. Drawing upon our expertise in the areas of counseling psychology, expressive therapies, arts, education, interdisciplinary studies and environmental studies, this series focuses on to the integration of holistic principles and methods into professional practice within a diverse society.
