Mimi Gilman shares her talents widely

Although Mimi Gilman lives in a small town 90 miles from Laramie, Wyoming, her experiences and knowledge are far-reaching!! Her reach is the world wide; she has worked throughout the United States and in Asia and South America, focusing on the use of technology in education. Mimi contributes to the field as an author, teacher, consultant, program director, coalition builder, grant writer, foundation worker, and all-around supportive person.

She has authored many articles, for Cable in the Classroom, T.H.E. Journal, and the Jamie McKenzie Network.

Mimi has worked as a Director of Media Services and Technology, and taught, in Carbon County School Districts in Wyoming from 1971 until 1993. From 1994 to 1998, Mimi was the Director for Professional Development and Technology Programs at the TCI Sparkman Center for Educational Technology in Denver, Colorado.

Consulting with independent schools and public school districts, Mimi helps them improve their information and communication technology systems. She also assists teachers in implementing integration of cable resources in the classroom and multimedia across the curriculum. She helps districts by writing grants for the implementation of Learning Centers for the 21st Century initiative to fulfill the No Child Left Behind law. Mimi is now the webmaster for Carbon County School District #1 in Rawlins, WY, http://www-rawlins.crb1.k12.wy.us.

Mimi has built and organized school-business partnerships in Santiago, Chile, Puerto Rico and Singapore. The George Lucas Educational Foundation appointed Mimi an Ambassador for Change and a Faculty Associate. She provides free resources to teachers.

As an adjunct faculty for Lesley University and the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Mimi teaches graduate students. For Lesley University, Mimi reaches far since she offers a wide array of courses; some of them online and others in the weekend format. She teaches ECOMP 7007 Telecommunications: Curriculum in a Global Context, ECOMP 5016 Teaching and Learning with Multimedia and ECOMP 6010 Video as an Educational Technology. All of Mimi's course web sites can be reached at http://www.lesley.edu/faculty/mgilman/webpageslesley/website/index.html.

Mimi has a wonderful rapport with her students. Her online students have written:

"It is rare to connect so strongly with a teacher when you never actually meet."

"She made you feel at ease with some humor or some kind of a personal touch in her emails."

"One of the most personable teachers I have ever had and she was over 2,000 miles away."

She is extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and takes an active role in their lives. One little known fact about Mimi is that she was a tennis pro and once played Billy Jean King. (She gave her a run for her money!)
