Technology in Education
Outstanding Adjunct Faculty

Wyoming Adjunct Faculty Member Shares his Love of Technology

The Technology in Education Division recognizes Jeff Brewster (pictured below) for his great work as an instructor of ECOMP 5018 Introduction to Education Robotics and ECOMP 6016 Teaching and Learning with Digital Media. Jeff enjoys teaching both face to face and online because, he says, it affords him, "the tremendous privilege of working with educators from not only around the country, but around the world." He meets his goal of making classes meaningful for all students by having his students work together to develop the most effective means for implementing technology within their own educational practices. In fact, Jeff says, "The interaction from the classes continues to help me find ways to implement technology in my own work as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) in the Natrona School District in Casper, WY."  He cites his work in 5018 as inspiration in the development of a statewide Robotics Competition in Wyoming.

Bill Barowy, course mentor for ECOMP 7100 Fundamentals of Computer Structure and 6016 Teaching and Learning with Digital Media shared that, “It is bittersweet to see Jeff teaching the digital media course because I miss his presence in the computer structures course. His course evaluations have consistently been great and students have been especially appreciative of his knowledge, organization, and interactive approach.” Jeff has taught both the Digital Media and the Robotics course online. “His technical skills, creativity, responsiveness to students, and his own curiosity and love of learning make him an ideal online instructor, and one who is very popular with online students.” said Maureen Yoder, Program Director of the Technology in Education Online program.

After seven years as a High School Science teacher, Jeff has spent another seven years facilitating professional development in the Natrona school district, where he instructs classroom teachers on best practices for technology use in their curriculum and individually assists teachers in developing classroom technology implementation plans. Jeff is also active in professional development through his work as a facilitator for PBS's Teacherline, through which he works online with teachers around the country. He is excited to share the knowledge from these endeavors with his Lesley students, who, he says, “reinvigorate my work with their own ideas that help me to grow."

Jeff actively shares his knowledge through conference presentations. He spoke on the topic of Technology Integration to Meet Performance Standards at the National School Boards Association Conference in 2001 and the National Educational Computing Conference in 2004. Jeff also spoke on this theme at the 2004 Florida Educational Technology Conference. More recently, Jeff has shared his expertise through the coordination of the Wyoming FIRST LEGO League Robotics Competition.
