Jo-Anne Hart

Jo-Anne Hart, Ph.D., has been a full-time university professor for nearly 20 years, many of those at Brown University. Currently, Dr. Hart divides her time between two pursuits: technology in education and the politics of Middle East security. Her doctorate is in Political Science and her numerous publications appear in books and academic journals in the field of international relations. She has lectured widely around the US and abroad, has been invited to speak at more than two dozen universities, and has been interviewed on the political situation in both print and broadcast media. She has worked with the US Army and Joint Forces Command on simulations for military operations in the Persian Gulf, and has been a board member with the international organization Search for Common Ground since 1991.

Dr. Hart has many years of experience in secondary and college-level teacher training and curriculum development in social studies. She is working with the Choices education project at Brown University to help develop and implement high school curriculum about international public policy issues. Several years ago Dr. Hart shifted her academic concentration to issues in education, with particular reference to technology and gender. Dr. Hart was the Director of a large-scale NSF grant project at Northeastern University that focused on college women and girls from grades 5-12 to promote their studies and interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Since coming to Lesley in 2001, Hart has created three new courses for the University. The two in Technology in Education are ECOMP 5022 Technology and Social Studies, and ECOMP 7011 Bridging Technology Gaps, both of which she teaches and mentors adjunct faculty. Dr. Hart also teaches and mentors ECOMP 6101 The Impact of Technology on Society and Schools.
