News
- Three students from Dr. Joan Thormann's Technology and Special Needs course had articles published in November 2008's Learning and Leading with Technology. According to Thormann, they wrote the articles as a culminating assignment in the ECOMP 5007 course. The articles are: Robotics for All Learners, by Stacey Bayley and Lytania Mackey; and Inspiring Students with Special Needs, by Barbara F. Green.
- One of Dr. Maureen Yoder's Emerging Technology students was awarded a grant for $1553. The student, Patricia Jenkinson, applied to her regional electric cooperative for 15 GPS units to use in her Geometry classroom. "A whole group came with balloons, a backpack filled with goodies, and a huge copy of the check on poster board," said Jenkinson. "They took pictures for the local paper. My students went crazy! It was truly a good day."
- TIE faculty member and noted Middle East scholar Jo Anne Hart faced off against John Bolton, former US ambassador to the UN, about the war in Iraq on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews. See the video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNqR4oEtV0o.
- The Casper, WY, Cycle 10 group continues to have success with their grant funding through ECOMP 6101, Technology: Impact on Society and the Schools. Jim Watson has been awarded $10,000, as part of a Perkins grant, for eight Genisys scopes; Chad Sharpe has been awarded over $37,000 for PASCO Xplorer GLX system from the KWHS mini-grant program; and Sam Weaver has been awarded $24,500 as part of a CAFB project proposal. EdnaMay Duffy taught the group.
UPDATE: The Casper Cycle 10 group has continued its successes, with a total of nearly $84,000 in grants and awards. Chad Sharpe has totaled $42,000 for the PASCO Xplorer GLX system. Kora Huffman received $2000 from CSF for a 20" Power Planer to be used in Industrial Technology classes at Frontier Middle School, and Robbie Lliteras received $5000 for Teton Science Camp and an after-school program at John Paul II School in Gillette, WY.
