Disposition Readiness

We have found that success in an online course depends as much on one's motivation and surrounding environment for learning as it does on technical capacity. These questions are designed to help you assess your "non-technical" readiness for online courses. On a scale of 1 to5 rate yourself according to each of the seven following statements; 5 indicating the greatest agreement and 1 indicating the least agreement. Be as forthright as possible with your responses.

• I have a place in my home or at work near my computer that can be claimed as "mine" for extended periods of study and communications time.
• I can put together blocks of time that will be uninterrupted in which I can work on my online courses (a block of time might be something like 90 minutes up to two hours, several times a week, depending upon the number of course credits you are taking online, or the particular assignment you are working on).
• I would classify myself as someone who can consistently work at a project and not put everything off until the last minute.
• When I am asked to use technologies that are new to me ( a new piece of software, for example), I will try them even if I feel a bit apprehensive.
• I can be a self-motivated, independent learner: it isn't necessary to be in a traditional classroom environment in order to learn.
• I am comfortable communicating with persons using electronic technologies such as e-mail and voice mail.
• I have persons and/or resources nearby which can assist me with any technical problems I might have with my software applications as well as my computer hardware.
