M.ED in Science in Education Program
A fully online program for teachers of grades 1-8, curriculum specialists, and instructional resource persons. May lead to Professional licensure in Elementary (1-6) or Middle School General Science (5-8) in Massachusetts.Lesley's Science in Education program helps students build an understanding of core science concepts, experience the nature of the scientific process, carry out hands-on science investigations at home, reflect on their learning and consider implications for teaching, and learn to use technology resources to support science learning. Participants engage in scientific investigations to extend their understanding of concepts and skills, rethink teaching and assessment strategies, and try ideas in their own classrooms. In essence, this third element is a built-in practicum. The 33-credit program is composed of an introductory course, required content courses, required pedagogy courses, and one elective course. Prerequisite: Applicants for Elementary (1-6): Massachusetts Initial license in Elementary Education (1-6) or a signed non-licensure agreement Recognized as an approved Master's Degree program by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education The Science in Education M. Ed. program was created in collaboration with TERC, an educational research and development organization in Cambridge, MA, with funding from the U.S. Department of Education, The Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, FIPSE, and the National Science Foundation, NSF.
