The Kennedy-Longfellow School
The Kennedy-Longfellow School, located in East Cambridge, is a vibrant urban school that serves roughly 400 students in grades junior-K through 8th grade. Its hyphenated name reflects the 2003 merger of Cambridge's Henry Wadsworth Longfellow School and the Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy School. Today the school is commonly referred to as K-Lo.
Because of the district-wide school choice program, students at the Kennedy-Longfellow come from all of the neighborhoods of Cambridge. The student population is one-third African American, one-third white, one-fifth Hispanic, and 10 percent Asian. One-fourth of the students speak a language other than English as their first language. Twenty percent of the students are enrolled in Special Education. Two-thirds of K-Lo students are eligible for free or reduced price lunch.
