Welcome to the Center for Mathematics Achievement at Lesley University School of Education

The Center for Mathematics Achievement was founded to assist teachers in honing their mathematics content knowledge. It is the belief of the faculty and staff at the Center that teachers who have enriched their own mathematical content knowledge are better suited to providing richer, more effective mathematics opportunities to their students in grades Pre-K - 12.

The Center for Mathematics Achievement was founded by Dr. Kenneth I. Gross who also founded the Vermont Mathematics Initiative (VMI). VMI was funded by the National Science Foundation to improve the mathematics content knowledge of teachers in the State of Vermont. Dr. Gross collaborated with Lesley University to bring the rich mathematical experiences in which he engaged the Vermont teachers to Massachusetts teachers.

The Center for Mathematics Achievement has provided sustained professional development, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Education through a Title IIB grant, to teachers in Revere, Saugus, Malden, Fall River, Haverhill, Holyoke, and Fairhaven. The Center has also collaborated with Mass Insight for Education to provide mathematics content courses through a Title IIA grant to teachers in Brockton and New Bedford.

As the Center for Mathematics Achievement continues to grow it now provides Massachusetts Teacher Educator Licensure test preparation seminars, summer content institutes, professional development for middle school teachers using the Connected Mathematics Project, and Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System family nights to inform parents about the test their children must pass in order to graduate.

Upcoming Events

Center for Mathematics Achievement Workshops

The Center for Mathematics Achievement will be offering a Saturday workshop specialized on a particular math strand each month starting in December.  These workshops are designed to refresh the participants knowledge and deepen their understanding of the particular topic.  Anyone wishing to enhance their content knowledge would find these workshops helpful, but especially helpful for those who are preparing to take the Elementary or Middle School math MTEL.  These workshops will work to deepen your overall understanding of a particular strand and can be taken for PDP's.

Each workshop will run from 8:30AM to 3:00PM, with a half hour break given for lunch.  See below for the topic for each workshop.  If you are interested, please click on the link below to see the official flyer, registration form and payment information.
