About the center for mathematics achievement
The Center for Mathematics Achievement was established in 2003 to assist in the national effort to improve content and instructional practice in mathematics at the elementary and middle school levels. The primary emphasis of the Center is to provide veteran teachers with renewal programs to update and deepen their background in mathematics. The Center works collaboratively with faculty and programs at Lesley University to offer Master Degrees in elementary mathematics education (1-6) and middle school mathematics education (5-8) as well as a Certificate for Graduate Studies in mathematics education in conjunction with the Division of Curriculum and Instruction.
In addition to the degree programs, the Center for Mathematics Achievement offers professional development opportunities for teachers during the summers at district sites. Center staff members also collaborate with teachers in schools and school districts concerning professional development and curriculum. The Center offers professional development for teachers using The Connected Mathematics Project, Mathematics In Context, Everyday Mathematics, Trailblazers, and Investigations.
Center staff members are actively involved in the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Massachusetts, Massachusetts Mathematics Association of Teacher Educators, the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in New England, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, and the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators.
