Graduate School of Education Academic Advising

Information for On-Campus Students

Orientation

Cambridge CommonThe School of Education holds one orientation session per semester. On-campus students are invited to attend, where they will learn about their program and meet program directors, faculty, and assistant directors for academic advising. At the session, students also receive a copy of the On-Campus Student Resource Guide [pdf]. For PhD students: you will be notified of your orientation date during your first Interdisciplinary Seminar I class.

Registration for Classes

Registration takes place either by mail, online through the Lesley Online Information Service (LOIS), or by visiting the Office of the University Registrar in University Hall, 1815 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA. See the forms link to download a registration form. Check the Registrar's website for walk-in hours, web registration, mailing address, and locations and information for on-campus students. See the Academic Calendar for registration dates for upcoming semesters, including late registration. Students are encouraged to schedule an advising session with their assistant director prior to registration to ensure that they are registering for the appropriate classes in the proper semesters.

Course information is available here, but always check LOIS for current information on room and faculty changes, class cancellations, and course additions before registering for classes. In the case of closed or waitlisted classes, contact your assistant director for academic advising, who can help you either find another course or advise you regarding the waitlist. Please do not contact faculty members. Students who withdraw are entitled to a refund according to the prevailing withdrawal refund schedule. Students who withdraw after the second class meeting will receive a "W" grade on their transcript.

Information About Your Faculty Advisor and Assistant Director

On-campus students are mailed a letter that states the names of their assistant director and faculty advisor, and can also access those names through LOIS under the "personal and academic profile." In general, advisors are available by email, phone, or in person, by appointment, during normal office hours (M-F, 9 am - 5 pm). Assistant directors and faculty advisors also do their best to accommodate students who need to meet outside of those hours.

My Assessment Portfolio

Students who begin degree programs on or after October 25, 2010, are participating in an electronic portfolio system in the School of Education. Please visit the MAP information page to learn more about accessing your account and training opportunities for students.

Parking for On-Campus Students

Because Lesley is an urban campus, parking is extremely limited. Lesley is located near the Porter, Davis, and Harvard Square MBTA stations and along major bus routes. Check for information about day, night, handicapped, and visitor parking.

Campus Resources

On-campus students can take advantage of the many campus offices and services in person. Check the resources link for information on Sherrill Library, the Career Resource Center, the Center for Academic Achievement, and more. There are also dining services, available with your student ID, in White Hall and the McKenna Student Center (Doble Campus), and a cafe on the third floor of University Hall. See campus map for details on how to get to campus offices.

Graduation Requirements

Lesley University holds one commencement ceremony each year in May. Degrees are conferred four times a year, in February, May, August, and November; February, August, and November graduates are encouraged to attend the May ceremony. Because students are responsible for meeting all degree requirements, they are advised to consult with their assistant director for academic advising at the beginning of the semester before graduation is anticipated to ensure that requirements are in order. Students must also have fulfilled all of their financial obligations to the University.

Students are not eligible for graduation in the same semester that acceptance to a degree program is given. Transfer credit and course waiver procedures must be completed at least one semester prior to the beginning of the final semester before graduation.

Candidates who are completing their program of study and expect to graduate must complete and submit an Intent to Graduate form to the Registrar's Office by the beginning of the final semester of study. Be sure to check deadlines, as no exceptions to the deadlines will be made. Students need to fill out and return this form, with fee (currently $125 and subject to change), regardless of whether they will attend the graduation ceremony. If you are mailing the form, allow five days for the form to reach the Registrar's Office by the deadline.
