THEME & SPECIAL INTEREST HOUSING
THEME HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES - 2008-2009WELLNESS HOUSE The Mind, Body, Spirit House, also known as Wendell House, is located at 63-69 Oxford Street. The philosophy at the Mind, Body, Spirit House is based on the theory that there are many outside influences that can affect your general health, whether it be your "lifestyle, social outlets, academic achievement or emotional support". Students must complete an application to be eligible for this unique housing opportunity. This house is also a substance free house. SPECIAL INTEREST HOUSING Special Interest Housing differs from Theme Housing as there is no application process. Students are able to sign up for Special Interest Housing during Room Lottery. Students that sign up for Special Interest Housing will decide how to carryout their interests. At the beginning of each semester, the residents will meet to discuss their programming goals. Some students may become more involved than others and take on a leadership role. The residents work closely with their CA to plan activities for the academic year. Selecting a building that includes Special Interest Housing does not necessarily mean you have to share that interest. You may reside in a hall and choose not to be a participant of the interests shared in that hall. The goal of Special Interest Housing is to set up designated residencies where students who share an interest can live together. SPECIAL INTEREST HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES - 2008-2009RECREATION LIFESTYLE ..... @ LAWRENCE HALL
WELLNESS LIVING .... @ LAWRENCE Hall This would be a great opportunity for those students who enjoy a healthy lifestyle, but cannot commit to the requirements of Wendell House (Mind, Body, Spirit). Residents would be encouraged to use the large kitchen space at Lawrence Hall to create and host monthly community meals. Some other programming may involve visits from health experts and yoga instructors. SUBSTANCE FREE LIVING .... @ MACKENZIE HALL and WENDELL HOUSE This opportunity is for students who are committed to a substance free lifestyle. Students may sign up for this space during room lottery, or if you are a new student, you may request this on your Residence Life Application Card QUIETER CHOICE LIVING .... @ 35 MELLEN HOUSE This is a friendly residence area that maintains an environment conducive to sleep and study. Social interaction is not restricted in this hall, although residents take extra special consideration of their hall mates and respect the sleep and study habits of each resident at all times. This is an area where students will be considerate while playing music or watching T.V. and also keep from having loud conversations in common areas. It is expected that guests of residents will comply with these standards. COMMUNITY SERVICE .... @ WOLFARD HALL A chance for students that are interested in giving back to the community. Here residents will work together to develop connections with the local community through service projects. Residents are not committed to a particular amount of community service, although it is expected that in living here they will be active participants in the goals that are set. The ARTS .... @ DOBLE HALL & REED HOUSE Any student interested in the arts, whether it be visual or performance, are invited to live together in a common setting. Artists, musicians and theater goers would live together and feed off each others interest. Some programming ideas may include student art shows, museum visits and trips to the Theater District. updated 05/13/08 | 10:24 AM
