The Counseling CenterOUR MISSIONThe Lesley University Counseling Center supports our students in fulfilling the full range of intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development, as part of the overall educational experience. The major goals of the Center are to empower students to define goals and develop strategies for change to realize greater understanding of self and others, to expand personal potential and to support academic experiences. The Counselors are sensitive to issues of ethnicity, spirituality, culture, sexual orientation, gender, disability, learning differences, and body image. The Counseling Center offers students the option of utilizing expressive therapies in counseling, including art, writing, and sand tray, in addition to traditional verbal therapy. OUR SERVICESTowards these goals, the Center provides services for all on-campus undergraduate and graduate students in degree granting programs. These services include:
Counseling sessions are held in confidence and are not recorded on students' academic records. Students in need of, or desiring, long-term counseling will be referred to outside specialists. Students are responsible for the financial obligation for referral services. A Clinical Nurse Specialist is available on a limited basis who can prescribe psychiatric medications for undergraduate students who live on campus. Full-time undergraduate students who live off-campus and have opted to enroll in Student Health Services are also eligible. EMERGENCIESIn emergency situations, students may contact us when the Center is open. (The Counseling Center does not provide emergency services outside of our regular hours of operation). We urge the use of other resources, such as 911, local hospital emergency rooms, the Lesley University Public Safety office (Security) and the Residence Life staff.
