Student Clubs and OrganizationsThe clubs and organizations at Lesley University are the cornerstone of our dynamic community. The Office of Student Activities always welcomes the creation of new organizations. New students often bring fresh ideas to campus, and creating a club is a great way to further develop and share your passions with others. 2011-2012 Student Organizations...Student Government Association (SGA) – SGA is the student governing body of Lesley University. Made up of Executive Senators from both Undergraduate Colleges as well as Class Senators from each of the four classes on campus, getting involved in SGA is a great way to represent your constituents and have your voice heard. Campus Activities Board (CAB) – CAB plans the major events on campus, including bands, movies, coffeehouses, art shows, lectures, and Quad Fest. If you want to be involved in helping to make things happen on campus, this is the group for you. Active Minds – Join fellow students in an organization devoted to raising mental health awareness on the Lesley campus. ALANA – ALANA is a resource, support, academic and social network group for students who make up the rich and diverse heritage of the African/Caribbean/multi-racial, Latino, Asian and Native American populations. Membership is open to all students who are interested in being part of a strong multicultural student network and promoting awareness at Lesley. Amnesty International – works to increase awareness of Human Rights issues and provide the opportunity for Lesley students to participate in some of the campaigns brought forth by Amnesty International.AI seeks to connect students to Human Rights campaigns around the world. Animation Club – Are you interested in animation? Join students to learn more about animation in film and television. We watch movies, discuss techniques, and learn about current artist and trends in the field. Anime Club – A place where students gather to discuss anime together, and share the latest information about the industry and its prolific creators. The Art History Association – Join future art historians and artists in an out-of-class experience enjoying and making friendships and all that the Boston art scene has to offer. Believing, Imagining, Realizing, Dreams(B.I.R.D.) - B.I.R.D.'s mission is to help create a safe environment where students can express their feelings through art in a social atmosphere. Cheerleading Club - They are to help support and cheer on LU's many sports teams while helping to increase school spirit by generating and giving off positive energy. Cheerleading Club – Help cheer on LU's teams and increase school spirit while giving off positive energy. Christian Fellowship - This group works to create a bond between its members and the community. The group sponsors Bible study and several social events each semester. Community Service Club – Join together with other students who are committed to service in the Cambridge and Boston area communities. This club works closely with the Office of Community Service to promote service opportunities. Commuter Student Organization - Are you a commuter? Here is a club for you to help facilitate and further build the community within the commuter student body and give all commuters a voice on campus. Conscious Kinetics - Acting as a container for creative group expression, this club is for space to explore movement and the body and expand awareness. Cultivating Healthy Options and Wellness(C.H.O.W.) - C.H.O.W.'s mission is to promote healthy eating habits by creating a health conscious community and to promote environmentally conscious decisions when choosing what to eat. Cultural Club – The Cultural Club seeks to discuss current global topics against the backdrop of regional cuisine, art and culture. In addition, the cub has initiated fundraising to support a wide range of efforts aimed to improve the lives of many. Dance Team – Members of this group share the common interest of dance. Different dance classes are offered each semester and are open to students of any ability. For those with previous Dance experience the Dance Team has a semester showcase at the end of each term and competes in area dance competitions. Design Club – Take the opportunity to collaborate ideas, learn new techniques and form connections all while designing innovative material for now and for those interested in future design careers. Enviromental Club – Members of the Environmental Club are working hard to promote green changes on campus. Whether reducing energy consumption or increasing recycling efforts, you'll find many ways to get involved. Film Society – Members of the club respect and appreciate the industry of film and its aspects. They meet to watch and discuss a diverse selection of film from different genres. Flag Football – Join Lesley's largest intramural activity.Co-ed teams compete weekly leading to the playoffs and Flag Football's own Super Bowl. Frankenprov!! - LU's hilarious improv Comedy group devoted to promoting improvisational comedy as an art form to the Lesley Community. Harmogeddon – Jam with Lesley's a cappella group on campus singing an array of musical selections. Hiking Club – Like to hike? Join students who travel to varied locations to enjoy nature and hike with their peers. Hillel - The purpose of Lesley's Hillel is to support Jewish students through cultural, educational, and social events on campus and in the greater Boston community. Hillel's activities include intercollegiate social events, speakers, brunches, and traditional holiday celebrations. Kickball Club – Bored on the weekends? Have fun and bond with other students playing everyone's favorite sport kick ball! Knitting Club – If you like to socialize with other people who enjoy knitting then this club is for you. Lesley Awareness of Animal Wellness(L.A.A.W.) - Their mission is simple, to advocate and raise awareness about animal cruelty and welfare. Lesley Delivers – A student-run organization dedicated to supporting the homeless and hungry in the community. They are dedicated to helping others by contributing food, resources and time to those in need. Lesley Public Post - The post is a school news blog that strives to brig information to the Lesley community, give a voice to the student body and adequately represent the school to the outside community. Lesley UNITY Chorus – UNITY is Lesley University's cross-cultural, interdenominational group committed to the participatory celebration of music from the African-American church tradition.All students, staff, faculty, alumni/ae, and Lesley University community members are invited to join for a wonderful musical and spiritual experience. Lesley Writer's Roundtable - The Writer's Roundtable exists to offer student writers the opportunity to discuss the challenges, opportunities and issues with their writing in a group setting while also supplementing writing with a reading series to promote literature and writing in campus. Love and Equality for All People(L.E.A.P) – Love and Equality for All People supports GLBT students on campus by providing support, increasing awareness and planning events and activities in support of equal rights for all individuals regardless of sexual orientation. Oxford Street Players – A Shakespearean theater troupe on campus, its debut presentation was Twelfth Night in 1991. The tradition has continued with productions of Romeo and Juliet, Two Gentlemen of Venice and the Tempest. The players present a Shakespearean extravaganza each spring to rave reviews. Page Turners Association (P.T.A.) – Lesley University's own book club. The PTA meets monthly to discuss the current book selection, whether a New York Time Best Seller or a literary classic. Paso Caliente – Paso Caliente means Hot Step in Spanish which is what you will have when you join and help educate, embrace, and encourage diversity and culture within the Lesley community through salsa. Performing Arts Club – Dedicated to increasing the visibility of Performing Arts on campus, this group brings together those interested many different artistic outlets, including theater, dance, and open-mic nights. Political Club – This club is for all things political. Whether democrat, republican, or independent, the political club increases dialog on campus around political topics. Psychology Club – Students meet to learn and discuss topics related to psychology in fun and educational ways by providing programming with social and educational components. Rock Climbing Club – Have rock climbing adventures in and out doors for all experience levels to promote team spirit and physical activity. The Running Club – Interested in running for fun?The Running Club accepts students of all running abilities and interests to get together and explore running Cambridge and Boston. Sigma Tau Delta – Sigma – Sigma Tau strives to promote an interest in literature and English language at Lesley University.Whether hosting book readings or a Slam Poetry event, Sigma Tau Delta aims to highlight this area humanities and its love of language. Sketch Report – The Sketch Report increases awareness of the Illustration industry throughout the world. This semi-annual glossy publication highlights the industry, career opportunities, and techniques as well as illustration happenings at the Arts Institute of Boston (AIB). Ski and Snowboarding Club – Winter sports are popular in New England and LU is no exception. Get your snowboarding and skiing gear and let's head to the snow-capped mountains! Strides – Strides aims to the offer Lesley University members an organized outlet to make a difference in the greater community while raising awareness of and reflecting upon issues involving heath and society.Strides participates in many area awareness walks including Relay for Life, Walk for Hunger, and the AIDS Walk in Boston. Student-Athlete Advisory Council (S.A.A.C.) – SAAC strides to enhance the total student-athlete experience and the Lesley University community experience by fostering a positive fan image, increasing the student-athlete well-being, promoting sportsmanship, and integration students, faculty, and staff to the Lesley Athletics experience, while maintaining the tenants of the Division III philosophy. Student Management Association - Further your learning through exchanging ideas and participating in professional activities while promoting awareness of Lesley's Business Management program by contributing to the Lesley community and collaborating with other student groups. Students for Social Justice – SSJ is a group focused on getting students within Lesley to increase their civic awareness and commitment to the world.By discussing matters of human rights and social justice this group strives to increase dedication to worthy causes. Student Works Project - This group is seeking to promote and display student art and facilitate critical discussions all while trying to actively involve students in the Boston area art community. Taking in – Students support the activities of the annual publication, "Taking In: The Best of AIB Photography," of which its primary function is to promote the visibility of student work within a larger artistic community. Third Wave - Aiming to create personal, social, education, and political support systems in regard to women's issues, Third Wave raises awareness and promotes activism updated 08/29/11 | 04:58 PM
