Student Environmental Club

Mission Statement

The mission of the Environmental club is two-fold: (1) Being active citizens by becoming aware of the ever increasing environmental issues effecting our world globally and locally and actively taking a stand trying to inhibit these issues, and (2) Spreading knowledge of said issues and trying to get others interested and involved inside and outside of the Lesley Campus.

Our short-term goals include hosting informational events that actively engage participants in fun activities (such as organic and local shopping, recycling activities, and how to create various things from more earth friendly substances) that serve to educate the community and raise awareness of the club on campus.

Our Long-term goals include setting up opportunities to go to conferences and talks on environmental issues and activism, joining in events with larger environmental groups and movements in the greater Boston area, and bringing knowledgeable speakers onto campus to speak about various environmental issues and solutions to the Lesley community.

During club meetings members can suggest or express interest in various future activities and later receive e-mails on how these activities are progressing and how they can be involved. During meetings, members will be encouraged to bring articles, artwork, books, etc. that have meaning to them within an environmental context in order to expand group members' personal environmental knowledge and passion and also serve to strengthen us as a group and cultivate new ideas.

If you are intersted in becoming a member of the Environmental Club - please email the Office of Student Activities studentactivities@lesley.edu for the 2011-2012 school year.

Upcoming Events!

Other upcoming events to look forward to...

  • Trash Art Competion - Spring Semester - A competition asking participants to use trash (or materials headed for the landfills) in a piece that stimulates awareness of how much waste we produce. We can use help to encourage more people to join us in making pieces that raise our awareness of important environmental issues.
  • Residence Hall Electricity Competition - next year - we will be working with the university to help create a competition between the residence halls to see who can have the lowest electricity usage, with the hope of making this an annual event!

This is just a sampling of some of the things we are working on. Be sure to watch for meeting updates posted at the Student Center.
