Sustainability Taskforce Sponsored Events

We are in search of volunteers and planners for this year's Eco-Week!! Please email Sue Wisniewski at swisniew@lesley.edu if you are interested and able to help out!

ECO-WEEK 2012 - April 23 - 27, 2012

Check out all the fantastic events going on in and around the Lesley University Community in celebration of Earth Day and the Ecology of the Earth! This year's theme is WASTE MINIMIZATION, RECYCLING, & REUSE.

Pre Eco-Week

  • Thursday, April 19th - Low Carbon Day in Brattle Cafe and Whitehall Dining Commons during lunchtime
  • Friday, April 20th - the Science and Ethics of Gardening class will hold an afternoon of planting, gardening, and visits with chicks and chickens as locally grown organic produce is sampled at Lesley Garden (rear of Mellen) 2pm-6pm
  • Saturday April 21st- Charles River Cleanup at various sites along the Charles River & its tributaries 9am-12pm.
  • Sunday, April 22nd - EARTH DAY! Coffee House and Open Mic at the Student Center 6pm-10pm

Monday, April 23rd

  • Technology Collection - Doble Campus, Student Center 1st floor 9am-12noon. Price sheet [pdf]
  • Meatless Monday - no meat will be served in Whitehall, Brattle Cafe, or the Student Center lunchtime
  • Musician Mal Blum - free music and edible dirt! Student Center 12noon -hosted by CAB
  • Waste Audit Demonstration - Come discover what is being thrown away in the dorms. Learn how easy it is reduce landfills! Doble Quad 1pm-3pm

Tuesday, April 24th

  • Technology Collection - Brattle Campus, outside of B&G Building 9am-11am. Price sheet [pdf]
  • Vegan Option - entire section devoted to vegan food options, Whitehall Cafeteria, lunchtime
  • Recycling Field trip - a field trip to the single-stream recycling location to see how everything gets automatically sorted! 1pm-3pm (Meet near fire lane of Doble 12:30 - return to campus by 3:30) RSVP REQUIRED! Lesley vans provided.
  • Eco Fashion Show - alternative fashion show competition between the resident halls focusing on SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS! Whitehall at 8:30

Wednesday, April 25th

  • Bring Your Own Beverage Mug - bring your own mug to the Student Center, AIB, Whitehall, Brattle, or Porter Cafes and fill it up for FREE! ONE DAY ONLY! (limited to coffee and fountain drinks)
  • MASS SAVE Energy Conservation Workshop - learn ways to improve your home while investing in energy efficiency and renewable energy. 301 Stebbins Hall, 10:30-11:30. RSVP REQUIRED!
  • Technology Collection - Porter Campus, University Hall, 1st Floor near rear entrance 1pm-3pm. Price sheet [pdf]

Thursday, April 26th

  • Vendor Visits and Information Tabling - alternative transportation options/composting/CSA's/graduation pledge/eco-pledge/holistic health coach... 9am-12noon. Stop by for a FREE GIFT!
  • Vegan Option - entire section devoted to vegan food options, Whitehall Cafeteria, lunchtime
  • Taza Chocolate Factory - a tour of environmentally friendly chocolate processing right here in Somerville! 8 person limit, $5 charge. RSVP REQUIRED at green@lesley.edu.

Friday, April 27th

  • Walk/Ride Day - Celebrate Green Streets Initiative this "Last Friday of the Month" by commuting in an alternative manner! Wear something green and stop by the GSI table in the Student Center from 9am-11am to pick up your Green Street Initiative pin and of course a "green treat"
  • Technology Collection - AIB Campus, 700 Beacon Street front desk 9am-5pm. Price sheet [doc]
  • Your Compost At Work - a field trip to Brick Ends Farms in Hamilton, MA to see what happens to the LU compost collected. 11am-3pm. RSVP REQUIRED. Lesley vans provided.

Throughout Eco-Week, April 23rd-27th

  • Find Eco-Survey forms in the Whitehall Dining Commons and the Brattle Cafe - or log onto www.lesley.edu/green and take an online survey.
  • Eco-Film Series in Student Center - 2nd Floor Mezzanine level from 11am-3pm daily
  • Technology Drive - various locations across all campuses throughout the week
  • New and/or Used Clothing Drop-Off to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters - drop box locations listed below.
    • Student Center - First floor stairwell area
    • University Hall - Second floor reception area
    • 815 Somerville Ave -First floor foyer
    • 23 Mellen - First floor lounge
    • Washburn Hall -First floor outside of cafeteria area
    • AIB - 700 Beacon Street lobby

Parking Transportation Demand Management Survey

  • Annual PTDM (Parking Transportation Demand Management) Survey will be launched the week of April 30th! Randomly selected participants - PLEASE take the survey if you receive an email!! RAFFLE PRIZES will be offered!
  • Move Out Dump and Go! Residential Students may dump anytime from Friday May 4-Friday May 18th. Collection boxes will be located in lounge areas of each residential hall! *NEED STUDENT VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST!
