How much do we compost on average throughout the campus?

• FY09 1.67 tons/month -Nice job!
• FY10 4.31 tons/month - Even better!!
• FY11 7.74 tons/month - BRAVO!!!

What materials are compostable?

• all food waste
• coffee grounds & filters, teabags
• paper napkins & towels
• paperboard & other cereal box-type items
• wet or waxed cardboard
• plant & grass clippings, weeds, & leaves
• biodegradable liner bags, containers, dishware, & utensils

What is non-compostable?

• branch & tree trimmings
• foil wrappings
• butter wrappers
• condiment packets
• vending machine packaging
• plastic-coated disposable paper products (coffee cups, plates, bowls, frozen food boxes, etc.)
• regular plastic cups, lids, straws, & tableware (plastic cups & utensils at Charlie's Cafe are made of cornstarch)
• styrofoam
• twist ties, twine, & plastic strapping
• plastic gloves & bandages
• all hazardous waste

Landfill

We want these numbers to DECREASE...which means, less is going to our landfills!!!

• FY09 477 tons Good...
• FY10 492 tons Uh-oh!? What happened?
• FY11 430 tons Phew, ok, back on track!

Single Stream Recycling

We want these numbers to INCREASE...which means more of our waste is diverted from the landfills and is being recycled!!

• FY09 85.7 tons Looks good!
• FY10 106.02 tons Looks even better!!
• FY11 139.51 tons This is nice -but we can do MORE!

Vegetable Oil

All vegetable oil products collected are recycled and repurposed into other products including biodiesel fuels!

We recycle on average 7900 pounds of cooking grease/year!

E-Waste

• FY10 technology recycling = 1.271 tons That is a lot of E-Waste!
• FY11 technology recycling = 3.678 tons Wait, no...THAT is a lot of E-Waste! Great JOB!

Lesley recycles all of our printer/copy toner cartridges
