VerificationSome students are required to verify the accuracy of the information provided on their Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). If you receive a letter stating that you have been selected for verification, don't panic! About 30% of students are selected for this process on a random basis by the Department of Education. If we would like further clarification of the information on your FAFSA, you may also be selected by the Financial Aid Office. If you are selected for verification, complete the verification worksheet as soon as possible-you will not receive any financial aid until you successfully complete the verification process. In addition to the worksheet, you (as well as your parents, if you are a dependent undergraduate student, or your spouse, if you are married) will be asked to submit a signed copy of your federal tax return and all W-2 forms. If you do not have a copy of your tax return, contact the IRS by calling (800) 829-1040. They will send you a tax transcript, which you can sign and submit to the Financial Aid Office. If you do not file a tax return and are not required to do so, please indicate this on the verification worksheet Copies of the verification worksheets for dependent and independent students can be found on the Downloadable Forms section of our website. Note: Please complete the verification worksheet only if you have been asked to do so by the Financial Aid Office. Submitting documents that we do not require could needlessly lengthen the application process. updated 02/08/08 | 02:01 PM
