Diversity Council Vision Statement

The Diversity Council's vision statement is based on a multi-year, university-wide Diversity Initiative that included a detailed review of all academic programs and services, staffing patterns and practices, and academic and administrative policies. The Diversity Council's vision statement is consonant with the University mission statement in that it supports efforts to be responsive to the needs of society (increased diversity), provides students with the ability to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and practical experience needed to succeed as social change agents (model of pluralistic community), and on a more fundamental level allows for the development of personal awareness of multicultural issues. Beyond being a response to the need for social justice, the commitment to addressing diversity is essential to our academic mission to educate students in the professions that put people first.
