Career Counseling

Career counseling is available to Lesley University degree candidates and alumni.

What is career counseling?

Career counseling provides support, information, and guidance to students and alumni at many different points in their careers. Through individual meetings, one-half hour or one hour in length, career counselors assist clients through the career development process.

Why would I see a career counselor?

Career counseling can be of assistance for a wide range of career-related issues and concerns, including:

  • Career exploration and career decision-making
  • Changing careers
  • Decisions about graduate school
  • Selecting or changing your program and/or major
  • Job search strategies for permanent, summer or part time jobs
  • Resume/cover letter critique
  • Interview preparation
  • Coping with on-the-job problems
  • Facing challenges, including being fired or laid off
  • Disabilities and careers
  • Negotiating salary and other terms of employment
  • Researching salaries and employment outlook for career fields
  • Decisions about accepting a job offer

When do I see a career counselor?

It varies. Some students come to the CRC as soon as they enroll at Lesley for early assistance in career planning. Others come to look for internships, jobs or other employment opportunities. Still others come when they finish their academic programs. Alumni return to Lesley to take advantage of career counseling services 1, 5, 10 or even 20 years after graduation.

How do I schedule a career counseling appointment?

Alice Diamond, Alison Angell, and Francis Alix are available for career counseling appointments with Lesley students and alumni. Alumni who graduated from Lesley more than one year ago are limited to three appointments per year. Please note that alumni no-shows will be counted toward their three appointments. All student and alumni appointments are 30 minutes long. You can request any of the three counselors at the time you call for an appointment, or simply request the next available appointment.

To make an appointment for career counseling, call the CRC at 617.349.8550. Appointments cannot be scheduled via email. The waiting time may be several weeks in the spring and summer. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please call at least 48 hours before your appointment time. This allows time for your slot to be given to another client. You can call 617.3498550 24 hours a day and leave a message if you need to cancel. You will need to call back during our office hours to reschedule an appointment.

No-shows: Your career counseling privileges may be revoked if you fail to keep a scheduled appointment time twice.
