Student Counseling Center
Making an Appointment
The services of the Counseling Center are offered free of charge to all full-time or part-time matriculated students at Lesley University's Cambridge or Boston (AIB) campuses.
How to make an appointment:
- Call us at 617.349.8545
- Come in person to the Counseling Center in Doble, 3rd floor, on Lesley's main campus, or to our office at AIB, 700 Beacon Street, Room 301, in Boston. (Note that the AIB office is open on a much more limited basis.)
When you get in touch with the Counseling Center to set up a non-emergency appointment, we will schedule you for a 15 to 20 minute phone interview to take place within a few days. This helps us to know more about your situation, and also to match you well with a counselor, and also to answer any questions that you may have about our services.
Following this initial appointment, if it seems that the Counseling Center is an appropriate source of support for you, additional appointments will be offered. Depending upon the urgency of your concerns and overall demand for our services, there could be a short wait before these additional sessions are scheduled.
Client Info and Consent Forms:
Please come to this first session with some sense, if only generally, of what you wish to discuss or explore. Please also fill out the client information form [pdf] and read and sign the client consent form [pdf] before your first appointment, and bring them with you. For your convenience, you may download this paperwork, or you can pick up hard copies at either counseling location.
Students can receive short-term counseling on campus during the academic year. For students who prefer to receive services off–campus, or who are in need of long-term support, we also offer referral services.
We look forward to meeting you!
Making the most of counseling.
To a significant degree, the progress you make towards your goals in counseling will depend on your active and genuine engagement in the process. Here are some things you can do to enhance your experience in counseling:
- Attend all of your scheduled sessions, or let your counselor know if you have to miss.
- During sessions, honestly and openly voice your thoughts and feelings.
- Between sessions, think through the concerns you are addressing in counseling.
- If applicable, complete your counseling "homework" assignments.
- Experiment with new and positive ways of doing things and thinking about things.
- Give your counselor feedback about how counseling is going for you.
