CAREERS IN THE COMMON GOOD

AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps provides a myriad of short-term and long-term service opportunities for more than 70,000 Americans each year. Full-time and part-time members receive awards to pay for college. Opportunities include, but are not limited to tutoring and mentoring disadvantaged youth, improving health services, fighting illiteracy, building affordable housing, teaching computer issues, cleaning parks, managing or operating after-school programs, and helping communities respond to disasters.

The Environmental Careers Organization

"The Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) is a national, non-profit organization that develops professionals for the environmental field through paid environmental internships that provide highly professional on-the-job learning experiences for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral students and recent graduates." Idealist.org: Action Without Borders

Idealist.org is a resource featuring over 57,000 non-profit and community organizations in 165 countries, as well as volunteer opportunities, and a nonprofit career center.

Lesley University Career Resource Center

Youth Service America

Youth Service America is committed to increasing the quality and quantity of volunteer opportunities for people up to the age of 25 to serve locally, nationally, and globally.

Asset-Based Community Development Institute

Northwestern University's Asset-Based Community Development Institute (ABCD), promotes community development through interactions with community builders. ABCD uses these interactions to produce resources and tools for community builders to identify, nurture, and mobilize community assets.

Campus Compact

Through 31 state offices, Campus Compact represents a coalition of more than 1,000 college and university presidents who are committed to promoting civic engagement by creating a deeper connection between campuses and the surrounding communities.

Learn and Serve America

Learn and Serve America encourages students to make a difference in their community by using their academic and civic skills. To this end, Learn and Serve America provides grants, teacher training, research, and recognition for students who want to make a difference.

UC Berkeley Service-Learning Research and Development Center

The Service-Learning Research and Development Center strives to understand the ways in which service activities affect teaching, learning, and schooling, and to promote service-learning in the US educational systems.

West Virginia Commission for National and Community Service

"The West Virginia Commission for National and Community Service challenges West Virginians to strengthen their communities through service and volunteerism. We identify and mobilize resources, promote an ethic of service, and empower communities to solve problems and improve the quality of life for individuals and families." Federal Election Commission

"In 1975, Congress created the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to administer and enforce the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) - the statute that governs the financing of federal elections. The duties of the FEC, which is an independent regulatory agency, are to disclose campaign finance information, to enforce the provisions of the law such as the limits and prohibitions on contributions, and to oversee the public funding of Presidential elections."
