men's soccer

Head Coach Paul Vasconcelos

Coach Paul Vasconcelos joined the Lesley community as its first ever men's soccer head coach. Coach Vasconcelos has been playing and coaching soccer for over 20 years. As a player at Stoughton High School he helped lead his team to the 1993 Division I MIAA State Soccer Tournament. Vasconcelos was invited to train and play in Portuguese 3rd Division tournaments in the Azores, Portugal. He has toured with several teams in select tournaments all over western Europe.

Coach Vasconcelos became the Director of Coaching at the CLC Futebol Club in 2000. In 2002 he was appointed the Assistant Coach at Milton Academy where he stayed on for just one season, before leaving to become the Assistant Soccer Coach at Emerson College. At Emerson he helped lead the Lions to their best record in the programs history in just his first year. He stayed at Emerson for 3 seasons leading the Lions to two straight GNAC Conference semi-finals.

A member of the US Soccer Coaches Organization and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Vasconcelos holds the USSF National C License and NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma. He has been on the Massachusetts Olympic Developmental Program Staff for the past four years and was recently brought on as a USSF Region I staff coach. Currently he is the Director of Coaching at Eastern Mass FC, a premier youth club based out of Canton, Massachusetts.

Coach Vasconcelos commented on his opportunity at Lesley, "I am both honored and excited to be involved with the men's soccer program here at Lesley University. My staff and I are dedicated to bringing top quality student athletes to our program. We believe Lesley is an ideal place for quality students looking to add competitive Division III soccer to their college experience."

Assistant Coach Jim Costa

Coach Jim Costa is in his first year at Lesley. Costa brings a wealth of knowledge and is one of the best trainers in the area.

He played for CLC as semi pro in the LASA league and won a National Junior College championship with Massasoit Coomunity College.

After his playing days Costa went on to coach at various levels and organizations. Coach Costa holds the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma along with the USSF National B License. Currently Costa is on the Massachusetts State ODP staff and is also a staff coach with premier club Eastern Mass FC.

He is a great addition to an already quality coaching staff.

Assistant Coach Mark Montgomery

Mark Montgomery, an 2008 graduate of Lesley University and former captain of the Lynx men's soccer team, joins the team as an assistant coach for the fall season.

During his playing days at Lesley he earned All-Conference and All-Academic honors as he helped lead the team to its first playoff appearance in only the second season of the program.

Mark holds several soccer coaching qualifications including the 1st 4Sport Level 2 Certificate, Psychology for Soccer (Level 1) and Certificate in Coaching Disabled Soccer Players.  Mark has worked extensively with youth & adult teams in England and the United States, so the move from player to coach is a natural progression.

Mark jumped at the chance to continue working with the Lesley University men's soccer program and has stated his intent for next season: "I can't wait for the pre-season to begin!  I've been playing soccer since I can remember, it's in my blood.  The upcoming season represents a chance to bring to fruition the hard work of Coach Paul, Coast Costa, Coach Monteiro and the lads to give the Lesley community a soccer program of which they can be rightly proud."
