The Lesley Public Safety department investigates all criminal incidents, responds to all emergencies, conducts campus patrols, escorts community members upon request and checks the well being of students, faculty and staff. Every community member will be treated with respect, care and confidentiality. We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service and make high community satisfaction our priority.
Legal Authority
Our Public Safety personnel are not police officers and do not have powers of arrest nor do they carry weapons of any kind. Our Officers' legal authority is limited to issuing "Trespass Notices." If police assistance is necessary in Cambridge, the City of Cambridge police will respond. The City of Boston police will respond to emergency calls at AIB. Boston University police may also respond to incidents at 601 Newbury Street. Lesley Public Safety has cultivated strong relationships with these agencies and other area university public safety departments to ensure prompt response during emergencies. The Captain of Public Safety often meets with representatives from each police department and other area public safety/security professionals to exchange ideas and discuss current events. This collaborative approach to law enforcement provides numerous benefits to the community.
Training
The training program for all Public Safety officers at Lesley is ongoing. All new officers receive a dedicated, one-on-one, extensive orientation. The training program includes topics such as: emergency response, patrol techniques, customer service, incident reporting and access control. Additionally, each officer receives annual bloodborne pathogens, sexual harassment, legal aspects of public safety, first aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and CPR training from Securitas.
