Graduate Assistant Program - Mentor Applicant Information

The University recognizes the financial needs of doctoral and graduate students across the University. The program is based on the notion that this need includes race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual preference, age, disability and veteran status. It also incorporates class, culture, power, and other differences that exist among individuals.

The Graduate Assistantship Program offers faculty and academic administrators the opportunity to work closely with graduate and doctoral students in research and academic projects. In addition to developing their professional skills related to the work assignment, students benefit from working with faculty and administrators who act as mentors. Graduate assistants are contracted on the basis of an academic year (October through May) and are expected to work the equivalent of 10 hours per week. The actual work schedule is arranged to suit the individual needs of the mentor-graduate assistant pair.

Applying to the program:

  • Completed proposals are due in the Provost's Office on March 26, 2012.
  • Selected proposals will be announced on April 16, 2012.
  • Notification of student matches will be sent to the mentor and student on June 29, 2012.

Upon notification, selected faculty/administrators will need to schedule an interview with the student with whom you have been paired. After the interview, please notify the Provost's Office to approve the pairing. You and your graduate assistant will be asked to fill out and sign an Employment Agreement Form. This is kept on file in Provost's Office and functions as a contract.
