University- Wide Academic CommitteesBelow are charges for each committee. Academic AdministratorsForum whereby the academic administrators of the University can come together to update one another and discuss issues surrounding the academic programs. Academic Advisory CommitteeThe Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) addresses a broad array of university-wide academic planning, policy and implementation issues, making recommendations to the Provost. This Committee works collaboratively to address academic issues that transcend a single school, requiring a cross-university discussion and/or approval. The committee serves to direct and gather academic matters to one deliberative, collective forum and exclusively creates any cross-university working groups that address academic policy or procedural issues. Academic Technology CommitteeThis committee is responsible for guiding the development and promotion of academic technology committees at the University for faculty and students. Arts Advisory BoardCross university arts education leadership group focus on planning and program development - both curricular and co-curricular - in support of increasing engagement with arts for students, faculty, staff and the broader community. Assessment and Evaluation Leadership GroupAs academic administrators and faculty from across the institution, the members of this group take an institution-wide perspective on assessment, while representing the assessment efforts and challenges in their respective areas of responsibility. They collaborate to promote the development of a "culture of evidence" and to facilitate cross-unit learning by sharing assessment work. They recommend assessment policy and support the documentation and presentation of assessment work. Center for Teaching, Learning and ScholarshipThe Center for Teaching, Learning and Scholarship (CTLS) serves all core and adjunct faculty in their teaching and scholarship through a number of funded initiatives within the Provost's Office, including on-going workshops, events, consultations, and programming. The Dean of Faculty works closely with the Faculty Life and Development Committee, as well as other committees, such as e-Learning and Instructional Support (eLIS), to assess faculty needs and interests and establish Faculty Development Day programs and other professional development opportunities.Institutional Review BoardThe Institutional Review Board (IRB) is designated to review and monitor biomedical and behavioral research involving human subjects. In accordance with the Department of Health and Human Services, an IRB has the authority to approve, require modifications in, or disapprove research. An IRB performs critical oversight functions for research conducted on human subjects that are scientific, ethical, and regulatory. The IRB is co-chaired by the Associate Provost and the Director of the Division of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment, and its members are drawn from the various schools of the University. Individuals at Lesley University conducting research involving human subjects are required to submit an application for review by the IRB. Liberal Arts CouncilThe Liberal Arts Council advises the Dean of Lesley College and is composed of representatives of different schools and programs within the University and the Registrar. Since the University's liberal arts departments are located within Lesley College, the College and its Curriculum Committee are responsible for the oversight of liberal arts courses within the University on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Liberal Arts Council is intended to facilitate communication and university-wide collaboration amongst faculty and schools in relation to liberal arts curriculum. Off-Campus Operations GroupThis group will identify issues and propose solutions for operational and administrative issues associated with off-campus program delivery. Teacher Education CouncilThe purpose is to provide a forum for the five schools of Lesley University to coordinate teacher education plans, responsibilities, internal and external reviews. The council will advise the Provost, the Deans, and the University committees in the advantages, concerns, and systems needed when Lesley is considering new degrees, endorsements, specialists, centers, states and partnerships. They will also review and, where appropriate, apply the results of teacher education research to Lesley University teacher preparation programs. University Graduate CouncilThe University Graduate Council acts as an advisory body to the Dean and Directors of the Ph.D. Programs on development of academic policy, review and evaluation of student academic work, review and recommendation of applicants for the doctoral programs, and review and evaluation of the doctoral programs. updated 02/27/09 | 04:29 PM
