When is the program held?The program is held during the month of July 2014. Students arrive on July 6th and begin courses on July 7th, 2014. The program ends with a public exhibition on August 1st, 2014 and students depart the next day.[ back to top ]When should I apply?Students must apply and be accepted into the program. Early application is encouraged and students should apply beginning December 2013. The deadline is April 30, 2014, although we welcome and accept applications until the program is full. Students are accepted on a rolling basis and space is limited. Accepted students are notified by letter or email as soon as they are accepted.[ back to top ]Will I be able to choose my own courses?The YAR program is unique in that it offers over 60 different courses that students may choose from. Students fill their weekly schedule with five or 6 different courses and fill their evenings and weekends with activities structured by the program. Students are rewarded six college credits for attending the program courses and activities.[ back to top ]How much does the program cost?The cost for the program is $4,100 and includes tuition, art supplies, room, meals, activities, and transportation to and from classes and events. Photography students must bring their own SLR 35mm cameras and/or SLR digital cameras. See our tuition and fees page for more information.[ back to top ]Are scholarships for the program available?The quantity of scholarship for the YAR Program varies from year to year. For the 2014 summer, scholarship is available on a limited basis thanks to the generosity of the Richard and Jean Coyne Family Foundation. Students must first be accepted into the YAR Program to be eligible to apply for scholarship. Scholarship is awarded on a need-basis, and families are asked to submit copies of the 2013 tax return information to substantiate need as part of the scholarship application process.
Once accepted into the program students may also enter into a payment plan that allows them to divide the cost of the program into four equal payments.In addition, some of our students in the past have received scholarships from their communities. Students should check with their local libraries, school counselors, and local business communities for scholarships. Examples of these outside, independent scholarships include the following. Attendance is taken upwards of five times per day and every student must be accounted for. Although students are allowed to check out in groups of three or more if there is free time in their schedules, they must alert Mentors of their destinations and return to the dorms at their 11:00 p.m. curfew. In addition to the live-in mentors, the university staffs the residence halls with a live-in Summer Residence Assistant (RA). The Public Safety office is located on the Doble Campus adjacent to the residence halls. This office never closes and staff are always available to respond to security needs and emergencies. All Lesley students are issued college IDs for the duration of the program. Their ID allows access to all buildings, studios, and some equipment.[ back to top ]If I am accepted, what should I bring to the program?For your room: twin XL sheets/bedding, blanket/comforter, pillow.For the bathroom: towels, toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving supplies, etc.), shower caddy (to tote toiletries to bathroom), hairdryer, shower shoes/flip flops.Highly recommended: clothes hangers, alarm clock, fan (no AC in dorm), laptop computer, iPod music player, reading material, reading lamp, watch, cell phone/charger, camera, personal first aid kit, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, reusable water bottle, work-out attire, casual summer clothing, rain gear (poncho, umbrella), comfortable walking shoes, swimsuit, beach towel, backpack/tote, lock for a locker. Art materials are provided in your classes, but feel free to bring your own sketchbook, etc., for free time.Art Supplies: Lesley University will provide art supplies needed for your studio classes.Note: If you are taking a photography class, you will need to bring your own camera and film.Spending Money: Most meals and transportation costs are included in the price of the program. Money brought for shopping, snacks, or other optional expenses is an individual decision, but we ask that students do not hold large sums of cash. There are banks and ATM's conveniently located, both near Lesley as well as on the Lesley University Quad campus. If you miss the campus shuttle, you will have to pay for taxi service to get to class or the event.
Prohibited in dorm: Candles, incense, hot plates, electric cookware, halogen lamps, paper lanterns, air conditioners, pets, and weapons.
