Ph.D in Educational Studies with a Specialization in Educational Leadership--Collaboration Program with the National Institute for School LeadershipOverviewLesley University, in collaboration with the National Institute for School Leadership (NISL), has developed a Ph.D. program in which school administrators can combine executive-level professional development with doctoral-level study. Each of the NISL executive leadership courses is accompanied by a Lesley University seminar that extends the content and experiences of the NISL course. The combined program integrates theory, practice, research, and policy to equip principals, as well as aspiring principals who already have leadership responsibilities, to be catalysts and leaders on the front lines of school change. For more information about this program, contact Stephen Gould. RequirementsSuccessful completion of the NISL courses and the accompanying Lesley seminars comprises 36 of the program's 60 credits. The remaining credits are earned through interdisciplinary courses, electives, residencies, and research. Sharing resources and exposing students early to courses that develop the doctoral level skills necessary for writing a dissertation permit candidates to complete their degrees in three years.
Note: Students pay Lesley University for 36 of these credits while 24 are granted through the school district or state partnership agreement with NISL. However, no doctoral credit is earned for the completion of just the NISL component or just the Lesley component. Other typical graduate program fees will also be paid to Lesley. Lesley University reserves the right to unilaterally add, withdraw, or revise any course offering in the above-mentioned program of study, including policies, provisions, requirements, and fees. Lesley University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity institution and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, religion, color, creed, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, handicap, or disability in its educational programs, employment, or in admissions to, access to, or treatment in its programs or activities. updated 09/10/09 | 10:53 AM
