Advanced Graduate CouncilStatement of PurposeThe Advanced Graduate Council acts as the academic advisory board to the director of the Ph.D. Program in Educational Studies, a cross-college degree program administered by the School of Education. Its work includes evaluation of doctoral study plan; review of candidates for admission, development, and review; and evaluation of policies governing doctoral work. The Work of the AGCThe decision-making process of the council is consensus. Majority vote or formal parliamentary procedure does not necessarily bind its actions, although the committee has operated on the basis of consensus or "majority-plus" decisions. Members meet once a month from September to May, read and review doctoral study plans, review applications and select doctoral program candidates (once a year), and serve on ad-hoc subcommittees as needed. MembershipThe director of the doctoral program chairs the AGC. Membership of the AGC consists primarily of faculty representatives selected from each school plus the dean or representatives from the School of Education and the Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences, and the coordinator of the Ph.D. Program in Expressive Therapies. Faculty representatives from across the university are named for a three-year term and membership consists of: three (3) representatives from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; three (3) representatives from the School of Education, two (2) representatives from the Adult Learning Division of Lesley College, and one (1) representative from Lesley College. The director, the assistant director of academic advising, the advising coordinator, and the deans serve ex-officio.
