The Technology in Education Online Master's Degree

The Lesley University Technology in Education Program is designed to meet the needs of adult learners. Although the weekend or traditional semester format program is the best choice for some, the Internet-based, online program is the logical choice for others. Students progress through the program at their own pace, taking one or two 12 week courses at a time. With Lesley's Technology in Education online there is no residency requirement. This allows students to take their classes from wherever they live in the world, providing they have a reliable Internet connection. The courses are primarily asynchronous, so time zones and personal schedules do not interfere with class participation.

Those Technology in Education graduates who have taken courses online are very satisfied with that experience. The reasons include:

  • As with the weekend and semester format program, the curriculum consists of a combination of theory and practice with activities and resources that are applicable to classrooms and relevant to the issues facing teachers today.
  • The content is timely and interesting with state of the art electronic resources available to students, including a vast collection of full text databases for research purposes. Emerging technologies are addressed and strategies for using them thoughtfully and creatively provided.
  • Classes are small, with no more than fifteen students, allowing more interaction and collaboration with faculty and other students, as well as, more individual attention and instructor feedback on student projects.
  • Students become part of a community of learners from all over the world who share their experiences and expertise.
  • Lesley University is a fully accredited university with an outstanding reputation.

Technology in Education Online Background

Throughout the 1980s and early 1990's Lesley instructors increasingly enhanced their courses with electronic educational resources and communicated with students by electronic mail. In 1996, the first, totally online course was offered. In 1997, students could begin to take the entire Master's degree online. Students from 19 countries and almost all of the 50 United States have taken online classes and become part of a community of skilled, knowledgeable, inspired educators.

Below are excerpts of student communications received by Dr. Maureen Brown Yoder:

"Flexibility and convenience were the primary reasons I chose the online program, but I did not anticipate how much I would also enjoy the camaraderie with the other students and all the help I received from the faculty. I learned a great deal and enjoyed the format immensely. I am proud to be an alum."

"I have thoroughly enjoyed this masters program. I have learned so much, and the classes are fun as well."

"There was no university close to my home and I had almost given up on getting a Master's Degree. The Lesley program was a solution for me, and it turned out to be an eye opening, mind expanding educational experience that has also benefited my middle school students and my school district."

"My online instructors were very responsive and gave excellent feedback on projects and discussion sessions. I never met them in person but I felt that I knew them."

"A terrific program! The content was up to date and practical. The students I 'met' became my virtual colleagues. The professors were highly skilled and excellent teachers. I would recommend this program to any educator who wants to integrate technology into their curriculum in thoughtful, creative ways."
