The following is an analysis of the technical capabilities of your computer. Please find and note the options on the table below that describe your computer, in each of the four categories (if you do not know the capabilities of computer, please consult your owner's manual or your computer dealer). What do we mean by the terms minimal, recommended, and optimal?

Minimal - You can anticipate participating adequately in most Lesley online courses. However, you will undoubtedly require an equipment upgrade if you decide to enroll in one of the more technically sophisticated online courses or progams.

Recommended - You can expect to participate comfortably in most online courses. However, your equipment may need to be upgraded if you decide to enroll in one of the more technically sophisticated online courses or programs.

Optimal - You have the technical capacity to participate fully in all Lesley online courses and programs. Specifically, you have the technical readiness to enroll in the Technology in Education Masters' Degree Program.

These are general guidelines only. The rapidly evolving nature of technology prevents us from assuring any potential online student of an absolute technical match with a desired course or program. Be sure to consult the Lesley Website at URL address: www.lesley.edu for more specific course information.

Section II

Please answer each question yes or no. At the end of this section will be an explanation of how your answers about access to technology compare with the technical requirements of Lesley's online courses.

Do you have:

  • A CD-ROM drive (internal or external)?
  • A printer (injet is the minimum grade required, e.g., Stylewriter or Hewlett Packard Deskwriter)?
  • A Network Connection or at least a 28.8 speed modem?
  • Access to a dedicated Network Connection or to a telephone line that can be given over to Internet use for sustainable periods of time, perhaps for 45 minutes or so, at least 3 times a week?
  • Access to a dedicated network connection or have a local or national Internet Service Provider (ISP); a company to whom you pay a monthly fee to obtain a connection through a phone line and modem to the Internet, e.g., Earthlink, The Intenet Access Company [TIAC], Ultranet, AT&T, CompuServ* or America OnLine*?

* Due to some technical limitations of certain service providers such as Compuserv and American Online, they may not allow you to access library catalogs online.

Do you have individual access to and know how to use these software applications?

  • A Web browser such as Netscape 2.0?
  • Electronic mail (e-mail) with your own mailbox?
  • A word processing application?

If you were able to answer "yes" to each of the questions, you meet the technical requirements, in these categories, to participate in an online course at Lesley University. A "no" response to any one of the above questions indicates a need to upgrade your technical capacity in that area. Please note that the technical capabilities outlined in this section are "minimal" requirement levels. There may be some courses which require greater technical capacity. Please read course descriptions thoroughly to determine the technical capacity levels required for individual Lesley courses.
