Liberal Arts Credit Distribution (42 Credits)

As part of each Bachelor's degree at Lesley, students need to earn 42 credits within the Liberal Arts. The information below provides examples of examples of the types of courses that fulfill the requirement in each of the academic areas.

Writing (6 credits)

  • College Writing (Basic Writing Skills may not be considered at the college level)
  • CLEP Test: English Comp with Essay (upon advisor's approval)
  • English Composition
  • Expository Writing

Humanities (9 Credits)

  • Art Appreciation, Art History
  • Culturally based courses (upon advisor's approval)
  • Film studies or appreciation
  • History
  • Languages (including American Sign)
  • Literature
  • Logic
  • Music History, Music Appreciation
  • Philosophy
  • Religion
  • Theology
  • Western Civilization
  • Writing

Social Sciences (9 credits)

  • Archeology
  • Civics
  • Cultural Anthropology

Science and Math (6 credits)

Math:

  • College Math (Business Math and Finance course do not fulfill this requirement)

  • Computer Science (ONLY if part of an Engineering curriculum with strong programming content)
  • Environmental Studies (if Natural Science component is included)
