Degree Overview
Lesley University's Bilingual Program prepares teachers to meet the diverse learning needs of the fastest growing group of learners in American education, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) students. The program emphasizes:
- Professional knowledge of languages and cultures
- Intercultural communication
- Research-based learning
- Integration of theory with practice
- Technology
- Nondiscriminatory assessment
- Biliteracy
- Collaboration with CLD families and other education professionals
This program, which leads to a Master's degree and eligibility for Bilingual Endorsement in New Mexico, is based on the philosophy that being proficient in two or more languages is an asset and an important priority for success in the global world community. It is also based on the premise that every student is entitled to the most appropriate education with a highly qualified teacher.
Courses are offered in a blended format, combining online instruction with classes that meet no more than one weekend per month.
Prerequisite: Applicants must hold a valid New Mexico license in early childhood, elementary, and/or special education.
