Master of Education in Integrated teaching through the arts with the option to pursue Oregon Continuing Teacher LicenseThis program is offered in:
The Curriculum and Instruction with Integrated Teaching Through the Arts program explores integrated arts approaches to learning. The program assists candidates to: 1) deepen their professional capacity, skills and performance beyond the Initial Licensure level to the level of a career educator; 2) broaden their professional capacity, skills and performance; 3) enhance the individual creativity of teachers and serve as a flexible vehicle for advanced training for educators who wish to apply the arts to many areas of learning and community service. The program investigates the creative process in relation to teaching and learning, and both the theory and practice of integrating music, drama, dance, poetry, storytelling, and the visual arts into curriculum in all learning settings. Integrated curriculum stimulates active student involvement and helps develop skills in literacy, social science, history, sciences, and the arts. The program consists of eleven three-credit courses offered in a specific sequence. For teachers interested in pursuing the Continuting Teacher License (CTL), three advanced professional practice seminars are interspersed throughout the program that will help students demonstrate evidence of their advanced teaching proficiency. The seminars are appropriate for studens pursuing Continuing Teacher License (CTL) only. The Integrated Teaching Through the Arts specialization is multicultural in orientation, and aims to help educators provide an equitable education for all students at all levels, using the integrated arts as vehicles for learning. It is appropriate for teachers at all certification levels, as well as other professionals who have an interest in integrated arts curriculum. A Master of Education degree is awarded upon completion of 33 credit hours, and the Oregon Continuing Teacher License can be earned by successfully completing three additional advanced professional practice seminars of one credit each for a total of 36 credit hours.
