Reading specialist. Reading interventionist. Literacy coach. Literacy coordinator. Staff developer. These are a few of the roles you’ll be prepared to take on when you complete this program. You'll learn to enhance the literacy of PreK–12 students who need regular help in reading and writing, working one on one, in small groups, or in classroom settings.
During your studies, you’ll take literacy and literature courses. You'll learn to choose, administer, and analyze results from a range of assessment tools and use data to guide planning for effective instruction. A research course allows you to dig even deeper into literacy issues. With faculty and fellow students, you'll co-construct new knowledge and engage in the kind of self-reflection that leads to greater cultural awareness.
