WWW.LESLEY.EDU -- UPDATE
by Michael Lofstead,
Web Site Manager

(article from the June, 1997 issue of the Lesley News)

Spring brings a fresh "look" to the Lesley Web site

May saw the introduction of a new and improved front page to the Lesley University Web site (www.lesley.edu). Users already familiar with the site will immediately notice changes in the page's graphic look. The home page now features a picturesque photo of Mellen Street - an image that has been very well received by many members of the Lesley community. Additionally, those new to the site as well as frequent users will benefit from the implementation of an improved navigational structure. Because striving to meet college needs as the site itself and the World Wide Web in general evolve, the redesign was a high priority in the Web site's strategic plan.

The new design enhances site navigation by offering an array of links to key spots deeper in the site. The goal of the new navigation system is to offer users "single-click" access to many of the most popular pages in addition to providing those new to the site an immediate sense of its overall structure. With the new design, visitors to www.lesley.edu can learn what type of information can be found in any given section by glancing at the list of clickable options available in the bulleted column running down the left side of the page. This new feature provides a more direct means of accessing the most popular information available on the site. However, for those who wish to take a more leisurely approach to "surfing" Lesley's Web site, we retain the narrative explanations of Lesley and each section of the Web site in the main text column beneath the new graphic. This section provides a larger sense of context with its descriptions of Lesley and links to select pages within the site.

Other recent additions to the site include Human Resources information (http://www.lesley.edu/hr.html) and Office of Information Technology (http://www.lesley.edu/oit/home.html) pages. OIT offerings currently include Lesley's electronic information policies, an OIT section-by-section phone and e-mail address directory, and a listing of OIT Instructional Computing's most recent educational software acquisitions. The software is available on a check-out basis to faculty and for testing in Instructional Computing to other members of the Lesley community.

Departments interested in learning more about publishing to the Lesley Web site or revising current content on it should contact Web Site Manager Michael Lofstead (lofstead@mail.lesley.edu) in the Communications Office as a preliminary step.
