




UMASS PROFESSOR JUDITH KELLEY JOINS PERG
Judith Kelley, a professor in the Department of Chemistry, University of Massachusetts, Lowell will spend her 1996-97 sabbatical year with the Program Evaluation and Research Group (PERG) at Lesley. Kelly is one of the minority of scientists who has become interested in educational theory and in work with K-12 education. She has had several major National Science Foundation grants to develop innovative assessments in science, to faciliate science education for students with special needs and to improve the teaching of college science courses.
Since its inception in 1976, the Program Evaluation and Research Group (PERG), co-directed by George E. Hein and Susan Baker Cohen, has carried out over 300 program evaluations, sponsored workshops, courses and other educational activities, and engaged in a range of foundation- and government-sponsored research studies.
PERG's principal clients have included agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the U.S. Department of Education, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the American Association for State and Local History, as well as numerous projects funded by these and other agencies. Other clients include museums, school districts, state agencies and universities.
