FACULTY/STAFF NOTES

Eileen Barnett, director of instructional computing and educational software coordinator, and May Carson Reinhardt, associate professor in the School of Education, presented a session "Integrating Technology into Curriculum at Small Colleges: A Faculty Development Model," at EDUCOM'96, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, in October.

Norman Dee, associate professor, School of Undergraduate Studies, served as a reviewer for a new textbook, "Elementary Science Methods: A Constructivist Approach."

Evangeline Harris-Stefanakis, assistant professor, School of Undergraduate Studies, was part of the core faculty of the first summer institute sponsored by Harvard Project Zero. Educators (K-8) from all over the world attended a week-long series of workshops and design groups focused on the theme "The Project Zero Classroom: Thinking and Understanding." Harris-Stefanakis developed and co-led with S. Seidel, the portfolio strand, "Assessment as a Learning Experience," for the child, the classroom and the school.

Merlin R. Langley, associate professor, Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences, was the keynote speaker at the NAACP Providence, RI, Freedom Fund Dinner honoring Senator Clairborne Pell and Judge Alton W. Wiley. Langley also recently visited South Africa as part of a Kellouge Foundation initiative focusing on health issues. While in South Africa he met with several government and university officals to discuss issues related to training the next generation of health and mental health professionals.

Maureen Riley, associate professor, School of Undergraduate Studies, presented "Landscape of Two Decades of Research on Inclusion According to Disability, Level and Intervention," at the Office of Special Education Research, U.S. Department of Education, Project Directors' Conference on Research in Education of Individuals with Disabilities, Washington, D.C., in July.

Joanne Szamreta, assistant professor, School of Undergraduate Studies, presented a paper "Social Construction of Women's Coping: I Will! White Middle Class Women's Expectations for Combining Work and Family Life," at the American Psychological Association Conference in Toronto.
