LINC LAUNCHES FALL COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS

Lesley's Living and Learning in Neighborhood Communities (LINC) student group is seeking the community's support in two programs taking place this semester.

The group is holding a clothing drive this month, with all donated clothes to be shared with the clients of the Pine Street Inn, a shelter in Boston. LINC is asking Lesley community members to go through their closets, and look for old clothes that don't fit, a winter wardrobe that just doesn't work anymore, or some gifts of clothing that have never been worn. There are people in Boston who could benefit from a generous donation of these clothes, especially as the cold winter months approach.

Donation boxes will be set up in the cafeteria, Charlie's and in various dorms. The drive will end after the Thanksgiving break.

LINC members and a large number of other residential students are participating in the Share-A-Meal program that benefits Rosie's Place, a women's shelter in Boston. Participants in this program "share" their Tuesday dinner from the meal plan. The practice of "sharing" involves committing to miss Tuesday dinner for the remainder of the year, and allows Daka food services to purchase less food per each participant. All food costs saved are then donated to Rosie's Place.

Last year's proceeds from just the second semester totalled more than $700. This year's program has a much stronger participation rate and was launched on Tuesday, October 15. It should generate a significantly larger donation to Rosie's Place. Anyone who is on the meal plan and is interested in participating should contact Chris Kelly at 349-8505.

LINC members, participants in the Share-A-Meal program, and the clients and staff of Rosie's Place extend deep appreciation to Karen Morrill and the management and staff at Daka Food Services for making this program possible.
