KINDERGARTEN CONFERENCE TO FOCUS ON NEW VISIONOn November 14-16, Lesley is sponsoring the 34th annual New England Kindergarten Conference, "Constructing a New Vision," expanded to include PreK-grade 3 programs.
The sessions of the first day of the conference will focus on the theme "Assessing and Reporting Children's Progress." This in-depth look at assessment from an early childhood perspective will provide new directions in identifying information about individual children, documenting their growth and sharing this information with parents.
"The How and Why of Curriculum Planning for Three's and Four's," the theme for the sessions on Friday, November 15, will examine how teachers plan and engage children in experiences which are developmentally appropriate and cognitively challenging.
Each day participants may visit the all-day displays in the "Celebration of Ideas Center." Planned exhibits include "Marine Science in the Early Childhood Classroom," "Journey to Africa," and "Fun with Bats."
The last day of the conference. Saturday, November 16, will move to the Lesley campus in Cambridge, continuing with sessions under the theme "How Children Learn...and the Conditions that Support Their Success." Teachers and parents will share in the exploration of key educational issues such as mathematics -- fact or problem solving; and literacy -- whole language/phonics.
Faculty and staff are invited to attend the conference, to be held at the Holiday Inn Complex in Randolph, at no charge. However, the conference coordinators are looking for faculty and staff volunteers to introduce speakers and serve as greeters. And, any full-time Lesley student who volunteers for a minimum of two hours may also attend at no cost. Contact Mary Mindess or Marta Gredler at 349-8922.
